The annual HSU Mu Alpha Theta (Math ) Contest

The 17th Mu Alpha Theta Contest     Spring, 2000
This spring the Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics) Contest will continue with its format that includes a section of shorter problems along with a section of more challenging problems for its seventeenth annual competition. Students will work on the examination for three hours on Saturday morning, March 25th. As in the past there are two categories distinguishing more advanced (B category) mathematics students who have completed more than one upper division mathematics course from beginning (A Category) mathematics students who have not completed more than one upper division mathematics course. The contest is organized and will judged again this year  by Professors Martin Flashman and Jeff Haag of the HSU Mathematics Department.
Sign up at the Mathematics Department Office by noon, Friday, March 24th.

The 16th Annual Mu Alpha Theta Contest, 1999

    In the A category the first prize of $50 was won by Richard Spjut, the second place prize of $25 was won by Abe Berman, while the third prize of $25 was won by Sarah Stolberg.  First prize was judged a tie in the B category with $40 awarded to both Noova Ongley and Martin Montgomery, who had won the second prize in the B category last year.  [No third place prize was awarded in the B category this year.]

The 15th Annual Mu Alpha Theta Contest, 1998

In the A category the first prize of $50 was won by Anders Carlson and the second prize of $25 was won by Peggy
Morton. There was a tie for the third prize in category A with winners Ron Anderson and Bruce Susich, each receiving $10.

First prize of $50 in the B category went to Craig Panza, who had won the first prize in the A category last year. The second
prize of $25 was won by Martin Montgomery. No third place prize was awarded in the B category this year.
